UPDATE: Due to the high interest in learning communities we’ve opened a 2nd learning community for the same dates, about an hour later each day. The signup link is below. If you’re thinking about joining, signup today before this one fills up as well!
For the past three years I’ve been researching how ministries can pursue more equitable support raising models through my doctoral program. During this time I’ve had the opportunity to read every book, article, and seminary paper I could find on the topic of support raising and justice. I’ve then spent two years interviewing teams who have made changes to the way they raise support in order to be more equitable.
I’ve learned a ton along the way and would love to share that with ministries and teams who were interested in solving the issues that cause Support Raising to Keep Ministries White. One of the things I’ve seen is that none of us has all the answers, but by collaborating together we can create innovative new models together. As a result, we wanted to create a learning community where leaders from ministries could learn together.
We are excited to announce that the schedule has been set for our Fall 2018 Learning Community and signups are now open.
What is a Learning Community?
A learning community through our ministry, 58, is an opportunity to grow alongside other ministry leaders in understanding of and implementation of solutions that promote justice in support raising. You’ll join a small group of other ministry practitioners to learn, share, experiment, pray, and journey together.
What to Expect
Our Fall 2018 Learning Community will meet via online video calls for one hour once per week during October and November. Before each meeting you’ll be given a short assignment (podcast, personal reflection, interview colleagues, etc) that will help guide you in reflections to prepare you for the upcoming call. Each call will last approximately an hour.
Here’s a rough overview of what we’ll be covering each call:
October 22 – Share your journey that led you to join a learning community around these issues. How do you define the problem? (We’ll explore how our definition of the problem will open or limit possible solutions)
October 29 – Developing a deeper theology of mission funding
November 5 – Engage the questions developed from my research to define the adaptive work for teams who desire to pursue more just funding models. What are your fears around funding and justice? What about others in your ministry? What are examples of possible solutions?
November 12 – What is a next step you can take today? How can you advocate for change within your ministry?
We believe that each of these topics are crucial for a ministry/team to be able to make the changes necessary to fund mission equitably.
